比嘉まなみさんと「どんど晴れ」の打ち上げで
NHK２００８年朝の連続ドラマ
「どんど晴れ」の主人公、比嘉まなみさんと貴重な写真が出来ました。
この写真真夏に撮ったから、二人ともすずしい格好しているけど、その前の年、秋頃から岩手県内のロケで寒い思いが多かった。
One of my favorite actresses in the whole world — Manami Higa, the lead in the NHK morning drama “Dondo Hare” in 2008.
She is rapidly moving onto bigger and better things. I wish her all the best.

朝日放送の「おはよう朝日」宮根さんとの花見２００８春大阪
２００８年の大阪での花見会はかなり盛り上がりました。
アナウンサーの宮根さんは、東京マラソンを５時間以内に走らなければ、自分の頭をボーズ刈りにする。
残念なことに、ちょっと努力が足りなかったか、約束通り、まるくしました。
でも、いやなやつだな。マルボーズにしても、似合うんだな。

This is my buddy Seiji Miyane, one of the busiest TV personalities in all Japan. This photo was taken during our annual flower viewing party at a park down in Osaka for the staff of “Ohayo Asashi” (“Good Morning, Asahi”). Miyane-san had just given himself a “buzz-cut” as penance for failing to finish the Tokyo Marathon in under five hours. He had made a promise to do so on a live TV program, so . . . . I guess self-inflicted public humiliation is the path to stardom in Japan. I’ll have to try that someday.

２００７年頃、「頑張れ、日本の消防団」のイベントで
親父が消防士だったという縁で、オラ、いろんな日本の消防士と消防団のイベントに参加させていただきます。
やっぱ、町のヒーローだから、応援したくなる。
消防団応援のためにLF ニッポン放送でも時々番組もやっているよ。

教会で神父役をするダニエル Just call me Father Dan
This is one of my favorites.
I played the part of a priest for TV drama back in 2005.
Those are real vestiments and we shot in a real Church up in Saitama, just north of Tokyo.
The resident priest advised me on proper movements of the hands, etc.
Having been raised Catholic, this was quite memorable.

パックン君とクッキング戦争
名古屋のクッキング・ショーでなんと、パックンと腕比べになっちまった。どっちが日本通か、すごい競争になりました。
結局、このとき、オラ負けた。（パックンの方のおにぎりはちょっとだけ形が良かったとの判定でした。納得いかないけど。）
外タレ同士の「漢字王クイズ」では、オラが勝ったけど。
でも、パックンって、本当に日本の事くわしいよ。漢字も良く書けるし、
よー勉強してる。
This is a snap shot of Pakkun and me on a competetive cooking contest down in Nagoya. We traded barbs in Japanese while making “o-nigiri” (rice balls). It was a lot of fun. But he beat me — the judges thought his rice-balls looked a little more sophisticated. Mine were too rustic I guess.
That’s OK though. I beat him at a Kanji (Chinese characters) competition once on late night TV (despite the fact that he probably knows twice the number of Kanji that I do).

NHK「親の顔が見たい」ジョージ・カールと共演
この番組もある意味でちっと恥ずかしかったよな〜。
２００４年頃の写真。
親父のジョージ・カールがオラの子供の頃の話、全部ばらしちゃったよ。
でも、大好きな親父だから、許せる。
オラもちょうど撮影の時期、久しぶりにひげをはやしてみた。
親父も引退してから、ひげをはやし、
なんだか、うりふたつの親子になちゃった。
This is one of my favorite shots. NHK brought my Dad all the way over to Japan to be on a program called “Oya no Kao ga Mitai” (“I want to see the face of this person’s parents”). He told them all sorts of stories about me when I was a kid. Mostly cute stories, some just a tad embarrassing for me, of course.
The best part of this photo for me is that both of us are sporting beards. My Dad grew his after retirement, and I had grown this as a “test beard” to see how it would play on TV. My first since college. Unfortunately it didn’t last long. Guess I’ll have wait till I retire.

２００４年のサンコンさんの誕生日祝い
外タレ同士の付き合いも多い。
サンコンさんが毎年誕生日のお祝いを結構派手にやるんだよね。都内のホテルでサポーターが集まって、アフリカのギニアの仲間のパフォーマンスを楽しみながら、多いにお酒も呑む。
スカンダルの事は別として、いつも楽しく仕事を一緒にやらしてくれたし、根っからの明るさは魅力的です。
最近どうしているのかな、とにかく元気で頑張ってけらっしゃい。

シロアリ退治するマタドール ２００２年頃
アサンテさんのCM いろんな格好してやってきましたが、このマタドール編が一番印象に残るんだべか。
This is me as a matador, fighting off termites for a commercial for the Asante Corporation.
We shoot this commercial down in Fukuoka in Kyushu every couple of years. It’s a lot of fun. The staff of Dentsu Kyushu always make this a fun job.

FUJIの「億万長者と結婚する方法」で藤原紀香さんと
オラの家宝の一つ。
藤原紀香さんと結婚する役になったのは２０００年。
こんな貴重なスナップになんとサインまでも書いてくれた。
当時、紀香さんは英会話を勉強する事に夢中だった。
シーンとシーンの間にいろいろと話が出来て光栄でした。
もう一回、紀香さんとドラマしたいね。
This one is going to become a family heirloom. It’s a Poloroid snapshot of Norika Fujiwara, one of Japan’s best known actresses, and me as we walk down the aisle in the comedy-drama “How To Marry A Millionaire”. I’m supposed to be rich Texas oil man and she plays an agressive gold digger with a rather colorful past. I was just about to kiss the bride when a hit-man takes a pot shot at her. That cuts short the ceremony. I never did get that kiss. Darn.

「ふしぎ発見」のレポーターの脇役、三浦按針でごわす。
TBSの「世界ふしぎ発見」はめずらしく、国内の話題を取り上げた週の
レポーターならぬ、その脇役として三浦按針の格好をして東京駅近辺を取材しました。クエスチョンを紹介するところだね。
この格好、すごく。。。気に入った。。。
ちょんまげに、はかま、刀までもさした。
でも、ここまでメークすると、外国人だかどうかは、やっぱ分からない。
前世は日本人って、占い師に言われた事あるけど、、、、

Now, how often does one get to dress up like this? This is not a drama, but I got dress up like Miura Anjin, the famous English navigator and ship’s pilot who was shipwrecked in Japan in the late 1500s, and eventually became a samurai. His English name was William Adams, and the novel “Shogun” by James Clavell is said to based partially his character.
This job was for the long running quiz program “Sekai Fushigi Hakken” (“Mysterious World Discoveries”). I ran around downtown Tokyo dressed up like this introducing the questions for the episode.
