シロアリ退治するマタドール ２００２年頃
アサンテさんのCM いろんな格好してやってきましたが、このマタドール編が一番印象に残るんだべか。
This is me as a matador, fighting off termites for a commercial for the Asante Corporation.
We shoot this commercial down in Fukuoka in Kyushu every couple of years. It’s a lot of fun. The staff of Dentsu Kyushu always make this a fun job.

FUJIの「億万長者と結婚する方法」で藤原紀香さんと
オラの家宝の一つ。
藤原紀香さんと結婚する役になったのは２０００年。
こんな貴重なスナップになんとサインまでも書いてくれた。
当時、紀香さんは英会話を勉強する事に夢中だった。
シーンとシーンの間にいろいろと話が出来て光栄でした。
もう一回、紀香さんとドラマしたいね。
This one is going to become a family heirloom. It’s a Poloroid snapshot of Norika Fujiwara, one of Japan’s best known actresses, and me as we walk down the aisle in the comedy-drama “How To Marry A Millionaire”. I’m supposed to be rich Texas oil man and she plays an agressive gold digger with a rather colorful past. I was just about to kiss the bride when a hit-man takes a pot shot at her. That cuts short the ceremony. I never did get that kiss. Darn.

「ふしぎ発見」のレポーターの脇役、三浦按針でごわす。
TBSの「世界ふしぎ発見」はめずらしく、国内の話題を取り上げた週の
レポーターならぬ、その脇役として三浦按針の格好をして東京駅近辺を取材しました。クエスチョンを紹介するところだね。
この格好、すごく。。。気に入った。。。
ちょんまげに、はかま、刀までもさした。
でも、ここまでメークすると、外国人だかどうかは、やっぱ分からない。
前世は日本人って、占い師に言われた事あるけど、、、、

Now, how often does one get to dress up like this? This is not a drama, but I got dress up like Miura Anjin, the famous English navigator and ship’s pilot who was shipwrecked in Japan in the late 1500s, and eventually became a samurai. His English name was William Adams, and the novel “Shogun” by James Clavell is said to based partially his character.
This job was for the long running quiz program “Sekai Fushigi Hakken” (“Mysterious World Discoveries”). I ran around downtown Tokyo dressed up like this introducing the questions for the episode.

高校生の頃の彼女、久しぶりに会った
いや、この番組こそ、ちょっとてれました。
「平成恋の物語」で高校生の時代の彼女をわざわざ日本に連れて、突然の出演。
来るのを知らないで、ただコメンテーターとして番組に出ると思ったら、急に赤面の主人公になってしまいました。
ケリーに会うのはうれしかったよ。分かれた後は友達として付き合いは保存。
でも、うちに帰ったら、女房にいろいろと説得。
This was another — er — slightly embarrassing program for me called “Heisei Koi no Monogatari” (“Love Story of the Heisei Era”). The film crew went to my old high school in California and interviewed a bunch of my old teachers for “interesting” stories. Then, unbeknownst to me, they brought my old high school sweetheart Carrie all the way over to Japan to surprise me as the highlight of the show. It was great to see her again — but I DID end up having to explain the situation to my wife after I got home.

すくすく赤ちゃんのテーマ・ソングも歌った
いちを、歌手じゃねーんだけど、「すくすく赤ちゃん」のテーマ・ソングも歌ったよ。１９９６頃、出来るだけかわいい声を出してみた。
エンヂング・テーマ・ソングだから、ちょっと聞き覚えのある方、少ないかも。
My big debut as a singer??? Not exactly.
Having lived in Japan as long as I have, of course, I’ve done my share of embarrassing myself singing Karaoke. What can I say? It’s a bit of an ego trip to sing “Hotel California” in front of a bunch of screaming drunk people.
Anyway, the producers of “Suku Suku Aka-chan”, a program about raising children on the NHK Educational Channel, were so impressed with my voice that they asked me to record the ending theme song for the program. Since I was one of the emcees of the program at the time, it would have been bad form to refuse. So, here’s the shot.

NHKの吉本アナウンサーと「すくすく赤ちゃん」
１９９６頃から４年間、NHK教育テレビの「すくすく赤ちゃん」の副司会をやりました。
はっきり言って、吉本めぐみアナウンサーが難しいところを全部やって、オラがわきの方で赤ちゃんの癒し役だった。
大学の教授の方や子育てのエキスパートがすばらしい話をしていただきながら、オラがスタジオに来た赤ちゃん達が泣かないように色んな芸を見せた。
結構、生の客席の前のパフォーマンスの勉強になりました。
A shot from the set of “Suku Suku Aka-chan”, a program about child raising on the NHK Educational Channel. I helped host this program, geared mainly toward young mothers, along with Megumi Yoshimoto, a seasoned NHK veteran. She taught me all about class.
I have to say though, that my main job on this program was to keep the little kids in the background entertained so that they would cry too much during the filming. Not an easy task.

一日交通部長をやった１９９６年のユニフォーム
１９９６年に世田谷区の一日交通部長をやりました。
ユニフォームは格好いいけど、なんだか中身がどうかな？
親父は消防士だから、DNA的に制服は似合うかと思ったけど。
とにかく、一日頑張りました。

A promotional photo from long running TV program, “Uwasa no Tokyo Magazine”. I worked as reporter / commentator for this program for eight years back in the ’90s. Man, this brings back memories.

I went to Chiba Castle to shoot a TV program called ”Burari Tochu Gesha no Tabi”. The guides at the Castle let you try on samurai armor and other “period costumes” at certain times of the year. I would have liked to have wore this for Halloween.

「ぶらり途中下車の旅」で千葉市内のモノレールを取り上げたとき、千葉城に行ってさむらいの格好をさせてくれた。千葉市の観光課が定期的に観光者のために、こういうサービスもしてくれるらしい。
女性の方のために、十二単の格好も選べるよ。

オラは『のだめ新春スペシャル』に出たのですが、
モーツァルトの格好をする役だったから、皆さん、分かりましたかね？
かつらをすると、以外と分からないような気がする。
ロケーションのためフランス、パリの郊外まで行ってきたよ。
上田さんも格好良かった。
Another keeper. I went to France for a wirlwind location shoot in late 2008 for “Nodame no Cantabile”, a comedy-drama derived from a popular comic series here in Japan. I played an eccentric French noble who is completely infatuated with all things Mozart — including his fashion.
Anyway, I think I was in France for all of four days. It was a very difficult shoot for me. I had terrible jet-lag and we worked on location from six in the morning until past midnight. I couldn’t say my lines properly, I was so exhausted. But it was good to see France again.
