この番組好きです。オラも長年日本語を勉強しているけんど、素朴な質問は沢山ある。

「みんなでニッポンGO！」で、なるほどな〜って思う話題をたっぷり取り上げてくれるから、大ファンになる。

今回、７／１５放送分にオラが、あるローカルな山形弁を皆さんに紹介させていただきます。

まだ、ばらしちゃいけないけど、東北人と越後人は喜ぶと思う。

なつかしい佐渡だ

この間事務所の押し入れを片付けてみたら、こんな写真が出ました。何年間前に久しぶりにロケで佐渡に行った。

小木湾あたりで「たらい舟」に乗って、その日の晩ご飯を採って来た。さざえとか、あわびとか、佐渡は本当に「海の幸」にめぐまれている。

As I was cleaning out the closet at the office the other day, I came across these old photos of a location shoot I did on Sado several years back. I’m sitting in what is called a “Tarai-bune” (“tub – boat”) which is used traditionally on Sado to catch abalone and other shellfish, as well as gather “wakame”, a seaweed that grows especially well in the seas around Sado.

佐渡は僕にとって特になつかしいところ。

大学生の時代、わずか半年ばかりでしたが、佐渡で伝統芸能の「文弥人形」を研究するために暮らした事がある。

佐渡の大自然、食文化、歴史、全部ほれてしまった。

Sado has a special place in my heart.  I lived there for about a half a year back in my college days.  I studied puppetry on the island under the master puppeteer, Hamada Moritaro.

He showed me all around the island.  I came to be quite fond of its food, history, and its beautiful scenery.

「美しい多摩川フォーラム」のいかだ

今度７月１８日に東京の狛江市で「いかだレース」に参加。

今年は２０回目になりますが、ぼくは去年の１９回目がはじめてでした。

多摩川を大事にしたい団体さんやNPOが参加するのだ。

I’ll be participating in the 20th Annual Tama River Raft Race this coming July 18th (Sunday) out in Komae City.

Groups and NPOs working to promote the environment along the Tama River will design their own rafts and race against eacch other over a two kilometer course.

レースが終わってからちょっとしたイベントもあるよ

２キロぐらいのコースをスピードで競争するが、まっ、勝ち負けは関係ないね。多摩川の環境をアピールするのが目的。

みなさん、楽しみました。レースが終ったらイベントがあって、僕もちょっとだけトーク・ショーに参加した。何の話ししたかは覚えていないが、、、、。多分、多摩川と最上川の共通点についてだと思う。

とにかく、皆さん、来てけらっしゃい。

Though the rafts compete in terms of speed, it doesn’t really matter
who wins or loses.  We are just trying to get people more interested in the River, show them that it is worth keeping clean and pollution free.

After the race, there was an event and we all got to say a few words.

｢ワンダ X ワンダ」で「水」の不思議を取り上げる。

山形の蔵王の「樹氷」も出るよ。

身近なもの、水、だけど、知られていない自然現象がたくさん。

蔵王の樹氷は世界遺産に登録すべし

すごい勉強になった。

On May 22nd, NHK will broadcast its popular science program

“Wonder X Wonder”. This week, we will take up some little known properties of “water”, including the unusual formation of ice crystals on trees near the top of Mt. Zao in Yamagata.

Daniel Kahl appears as a guest. He says, “It was a fascinating program. Even though water is such a common and important part of our lives, we take it for granted. There are still many things we non-scientists don’t know about it.”

This episode will aire from 8 PM on Saturday May 22nd on NHK General.

親父以外誰にも会わないから、ちょっとだらしなくなって、久しぶりにひげをはやしてみた。

どうかな？

大学生のころ、ずっとはやしっぱなしだった。自分では、けっこう格好いいと思ってました。

でも、中年になって、色が　．．．。

三週間しか時間たっていないから、まだ荒いまま、日本に帰って来た。

女房に笑われた。

結局、もとに戻した。

もうちょっと年とってから、また

チャレンジしてみます。

I recently took a short vacation to visit my Dad in America. Since he was just about the only person I saw for three weeks, I got lazy and grew a beard.

I sported a beard all through my college days and I thought it looked pretty cool.

But now that I’m middle-aged, the color has – er – shall we say, shifted.

Since I only grew it for three weeks, it was still a bit scroungy when I got back to Japan.

My wife had a good laugh.

Anyway, I shaved it off.  Maybe I’ll try again when I get a bit older.

京都駅にわりと近い「東寺」

Have you ever found yourself with an hour to kill at Kyoto Station waiting for a train? It’s a real bummer. There is SO much to see in Kyoto, but with only an hour, you feel sort of trapped at the station. What a waste.

If you are “walker” like I am, one suggestion is to take a leisurely stroll west and south of the station. Less than two kilometers away is “Toh-ji” (literally “East Temple”).

If the weather is cooperative, you can fill up your digital camera with some nice “snaps” of the temple and its environs and get some exercise at the same time.

The most prominent feature of Toh-ji is its five tiered pagoda, which is actually visible from the Shinkansen Bullet Trains just after leaving Kyoto Station heading toward Osaka (south of the tracks).

Anyway, all in all I scored about four kilometers on this walk, took maybe 20 photos, learned a bit more about how ancient civilizations cope with rapid modernization (at least from a city-planning perspective), and met some cool people along the way

Not bad for an hour’s walk.  Beats the heck out of sitting on the train platform.

宮根さん、卒業パーティーなのに多いにパフォーマンス

ABC「おはよう朝日」宮根さんの卒業パーティーが３月２６日の夜行われました。自分が主人公だちゅうのに、一生懸命に盛り上げました。２０年間もこの番組を司会した宮根さんだから、集まった方々の人数も半端じゃなかった。ステージの上で挨拶するゲスト一人一人と宮根さんがやり取りして、雰囲気を明るくした。

挨拶のあと、なんとレポーターさん達とバンドを組んで歌った。

中野プラザさんもゲストでいらっしゃって、ステージに立ちました。

この辺りが一番盛り上がったところかな？

一緒に新築のマンションを取材する鳥飼さんと川島さん

３月２６日大阪府枚方市内で間もなく完成するマンションの取材をする川島さん、鳥飼さん、とオラ。

枚方市と言ったら、また縁のある土地です。

実は大学生の時代、枚方市内にある関西外国語大学にしばらく通った事がある。

町並みだいぶ変わっているところもあるが、昔とあまり変わらないところもたくさんあったので、なつかしかった。オラの昔の枚方のイメージは、駅近辺からちょっと離れると、静かな住宅街が多い。交通便は非常にいい枚方けど、なんだか落ち着いている。大都会よりもベッドタウンって感じだった。安心して暮らせるまち。そこのところが昔とあまり変わらない。

新しくなった関西外国語大学

関西外大はもちろんじぇんじぇん違うけど。何年か前に場所を移動して本当に立派な校舎いっぱいできました。でも、表面が変わっても中身は同じだべな〜。だって、オラが通っていたころに、お世話になったラワチ先生は未だにも現役。ダイナミックな先生でしたから、今でも、オラ授業をうけてみたい。
